was a chance meeting at an Only Connect event that helped me land my job
at The Prince's Trust. After many years working in PR I was looking to
work for a charity. Fate intervened when I got speaking to someone at
one of the first Only Connect events who had just heard about a job
vacancy at The Trust. It seemed too good to be true - my ideal job at a
charity that I had followed and respected for years. I followed up with
the contact the next day and before I knew it I was filling in the job
application. Of course I still had to go through the normal application
process and interviews but if it hadn't been for that conversation at
Only Connect I doubt whether I would have even heard about the job. "As
someone whose life is spent meeting interesting people from diverse
backgrounds all over the world I tend to shy away from networking events
outside Office hours. However on hearing about OC through speaking to
friends who had been to a couple of the previous events, I jumped at the
chance to get a ticket. I was welcomed with a choice of bubbles, whilst
co-hosts came up and were very friendly, explaining how the event would
pan out whilst showing me round the venue. Just talking amongst friends
and with the occasional casual introduction from the co-hosts, I met
guests who were interesting and charismatic, multidisciplinary and were
successful both in their work lives and play. I thoroughly enjoyed
myself, will definitely be attending more and hope that the future
